Making sure the pilot bushing slid easily over the shaft before installation, (my experience has been that about 1/4 of the auto parts sold are wrong), and now, making sure the pilot bushing has not been damaged during your attempts so far. If you didn't test fit it on the shaft and don't have the tools to actually measure it, or there is any sign of damage, you could simply replace it again. Since you just replaced it, it's easy. .... Other than that, just try again on a new day. Wiggle it a different way. When mine finally went in, it went in easily. So easily, it just pissed me off again. Seemed like all that time had been a waste. PS: 2 hours is not a record.
